HIGHLIGHT:
Trekking starts from Zagora In Elfayja we will meet our camel team. We will cross Jabel Bani on the other side to reach Diabi oasis. Then hike around the Ouad Elmhasser mountains to the guelta Elmsaffi. The mountains around the guelta are worth spending a whole day there and discovering. Sunset and night under the stars. Then we will go to JEbel Bani. From there we will go to Erg Lihoudi to discover the dunes. We will join after the camp "Bivouac les nomades" here we will spend a good night in this well-equipped camp. Back to Zagora. end of this Zagora trek.
Seven Days desert trekking from Zagora to Bivouac les nomades - lake Iriki itinerary:
DAY 1: FROM ZAGORA-ELFAYJA TO DIABI OASIS
The trekking tour starts from Zagora in the early morning. In Elfayja the south of the small village of Rggab Ental we will meet our camel team. We will cross to Jabel Bani to the other side to reach the Diabi oasis. A very beautiful and calm oasis in the middle of the mountains of ouad Elmhasser. The ground will be very rocky and makes the hiking more challenging. We will need to hike 5 hours to reach the oasis.
DAY 2: FROM DIABI OASIS TO ELMSAFFI GUELTA
After having breakfast in diabi oasis, we will start our second day through ouad Elmhasser mountains down to Elmsaffi guelta. A guelta is a natural pool in the desert mountains. You can swim in the guelta or just enjoy the special place. In the evening we can discover together the old building of the Portuguese colonization at the top of one of the big table mountains.
DAY 3: DAY OFF AT ELMSAFFI GUELTA
The mountains around the guelta are worth it to spend a whole day here and discover them. You can find ruins, enjoying the panoramic view from the top of the mountains, especially with the sunset. For the fire in the evening we have to collect some wood.
At the evening we will sit around the fire and play some music together. We still sing the song, that our grandfathers sang in the past.
DAY 4: FROM THE ELMSAFFI GUELTA TO EDGE OF JEBEL BANI
After having breakfast at the guelta we will start from the guelta through the rocky ouad Elmhasser. This is river which is most of the time dry. You can only find a little bit of water at guelta of Elmsaffi and once your are close to the top of Jebel Bani. Maybe we will meet some nomads on the way, because it´s the perfect place to find some water for the goats and camels. After 3,5 hours hiking we will reach the edge the Jebel Bani mountains. Here we will prepare our camp for the next night.
DAY 5: FROM THE EDGE OF JEBEL BANI TO ERG ELGHOUL
Our next stage of this desert trekking tour will be from the edge of Jabel Bani to Erg Elghoul.
Today the ground will be 10 kilometres of hamada (stone desert) with rocks, but yet there will be a little road from the camels caravane and the rest of the way will be sandy. In total you have to walk 18 km today. This day will be special, because you will leave the mountains and arrive in the sand and the big dunes of the Moroccan Sahara. In the evening we will enjoy the sunset from the big dunes of Erg Elghoul.
For the night you can choose to sleep in your tent or under the millions of desert stars outside, that you can enjoy the countless shooting stars.
DAY 6: FROM ERG ELGHOUL TO THE OTHER SIDE OF LAKE IRIKI SAHARA DESERT
This day we will walk from Erg Elghoul to the other side of lake Iriki.
Today it will be the last trekking day and it will be a little bit tough, because we are going to cross the dunes from Chegaga side to lake Iriki side. Thats how we will reach Bivouac les Nomades, where we will pass the night in the middle of the dunes of lake Iriki: You will sleep in one of our beautiful tents in a comfortable bed. The desert camp has a kitchen, restaurants, toilets and a shower.
Here we will celebrate the last night in the desert together with nomad music.
DAY 7: FROM BIVOUAC LES NOMADES BACK TO FOUM ZGUID OR ZAGORA
After a wonderful night in the Camp, we will take the 4×4 car back to Foum Zguid or Zagora, you can choose. Don´t miss the chance and wake up early to see the sunrise on one of the dunes - the colors are incredibly beautiful.
