This 4-day tour from Marrakech to the Chegaga desert will take you on an unforgettablea journey throughh the stunning landscapes ofa Morocco. You will explorer the majestic sand dunes of thea Sahara in Chegaga desert, visit the ancient Kasbahs of Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate, and enjoy a camel ride in the desert. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Berber villages of Taznakht and Taliouine, and experience traditional Berber hospitality. On the last day, you will have a chance to explore the beautiful oasis of Chegaga before returning to Marrakech.

4 days Tour to Chegaga desert from Marrakech itinerary:

DAY 1: FROM MARRAKECH TO THE HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS - AIT BEN HADDOU - OURAZAZATE

 

Your departure will be from your accommodation at 8:30.

First we have to cross the high Atlas mountains. The Tizi-n-Tischka pass is the highest pass road in North Africa and worth a stop to take some pictures. After a few kilometres we will leave the main road to visit Telouet Kasbah, which is a very old Kasbah that belongs to the Glaoui family.
We head up through Ounila valley and you can enjoy the view of the small Berber villages, small Kasbahs, and gardens till we reach Ait Ben Haddou.

You will have a one hour lunch break before you visit the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou.

After your return we will continue to Ouarzazate, where we will spend our first night.

 

 

DAY 2: OUARZAZATE TO ZAGORA AND M´HAMID EL GHIZLANE



After having breakfast in Ourazazate, we will start your second day of your desert tour in the direction of Zagora.
You will be amazed by the numbers of palm trees and oasis in the Draa valley. They will accompany us alle the way, starting from Agdz.

On the way you will have some short visit to the Kasbah of Tamnougalt.
We will also cross the nice villages of Tansikht and Tinsouline before we will reach the biggest town in the region, Zagora.
Here we will have a one hour break for lunch.

In Tamgroute we will visit the potteries and also the old coranic library.

We will also pass Tagnite to reach the gate to the desert M´hmid el Ghizlane. Here the paved road ends.
This night you will sleep in a beautiful standart camp in the dunes of M´hamid.

 

 

DAY 3:  M´HAMID EL GHIZLANE TO ERG CHEGAGA



We will start our day with having breakfast in the desert camp.

The desert ist not only the big sand dunes that tourist are thinking of. It is a mixture between  Hamada (stoney desert), oasis, flat ground and mountains. All of this you can see in this region.

We will take the 4x4 car and reach Erg Chegaga within 2 hours. Here you will spend you third night in a standart desert camp.

In the evening you will have your camel ride to see the sunset at the top of the the biggest dune of Morocco, Erg Chegaga.

 

 

Day 4: From Erg Chegaga dunes to lake Iriki - Foum Zguid, Taznaght, back to Marrakech



After having a last breakfast in the Moroccan Sahara desert we will cross the dunes of Chegaga to reach the dry and salty lake Iriki. We will make a stop in the middle of the lake to have a cup of tea with the local nomads of lake Iriki at the terrace of restaurant Titanic.

After we will continue to Foum Zguid to have lunch in cafe called Chegaga.

From Foum Zguid on we can take a paved road again to go all the back to the high Atlas mountains. We will pass by Taznaght - the capitol of carpets. We will take a different road than the one we came from, so you can enjoy a different view.

We will arrive in Marrakech in the late evening and drop you to your hotel or nearby.
